Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said that Rex Grossman will report to training camp Tuesday night, and the team tweeted that the nine-year veteran is expected to sign a free agent contract to return to Washington.
In his first year in the nation’s capital, Grossman took over for Donovan McNabb and started the final three games of the 2010 season for the Redskins. He finished the season with 884 passing yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions. If and when he signs with the Redskins Tuesday night, he would become the team’s third quarterback with John Beck and rookie Ben Chappell already on the roster.
Washington traded McNabb to the Vikings last week, seemingly giving Grossman the best shot at taking over starting quarterback duties in 2011.
